If you know this site 9gag, maybe you have seen this lamp before. A lamp composed of carton from milk. It was designed by an Asia Designer, who must be incredible patient and he must have a lot of time on his hands.
But the problem is, you don´t see the lot of work not really on the result. Of course you think: Wow, that´s amazing. I would like to do this, too! and I thought, this could be possible! Ha!

I´ve looked at the Links (1 and 2) to this work of art and found in fact an instruction. So I took my crazy friend as I said before, who is really into this S***t. Okay, we start to collect milk cartons, sat down and began to do this handicrafts. Like the tutorial.
After the huge timelime from 8 hours we had the seperate parts to put together like the instruction from the internet. Till we had read the comments to this lamp and suddenly we are sure, that we´ve had a little less than the half of the pieces we need and the tutorial shows only how to do it.
We had after 8 hours of nerve-racking work (it wasn´t so dramatical as it seems. It was much fun, too) the choice to work another 10 hours plus no estimate time to put the lamp together or to think about the whole project.
Based on the material (20 milk cartons are way to sparse) and the disappointment about the unknown finish we choose to be creative on our own and try to compose a building plan for a lesser and not so spectacular lamp. But she’s Done! Btw, on the same evening!
This is how it works:
You need:
A lot of patience!!!!!
Much much more milk cartons with silvery innerlife (we had about 20)
Hot-melt adhesive
Cutter or better a cutting machine
Ruler
Step 1
Bare the milk cartons by water and dissamble there to have a plain to work with.
Than cut it in stripes. I can´t remember, how much we had since we make it one by one. For the triangle the stripes should be 0,83 Inches flat, for the connecting piece 0,71 Inches.
The triangles for the hexagons get basic four times around on a 0,83 stripe and so you get a big triangle with a gluearea. Turn the triangles for a pentagon over a 0,83 stripe, than a double turn around a 0,71 stripe and than again around the 0,83 stripe, the reason for this is, you became the gluearea. The connecting pieces must not absolute have the length as we mentioned, that´s relative variable. Ours had the length of 3,74 Inch. That fits.
Step 2
The triangle for the hexagons are equal-sided and have a side length in each case of 0,83 Inch. On the
triangles for the pentagons there were both sides in 0,71 and one in 0,83 Inch flat. 20 hexagons and 11
pentagons you need like our sample shows. It means 120 big and 55 small triangles and then 175 connection pieces for the hexa- and pentagons and at least some for the last connection.Step 3a Triangles
The crazy asian man has the lamp pure folded, but we are not so well versed in origami-technologies. So we took the hot-melt-adhesive. So you crinkle the triangles like I wrote on the top and clued they on the side who is double applied aka the gluearea.
Step 3b Hexagons
Connect two triangles with a connecting-piece as you crack it in the middle and on every clip you put a triangle. You break the clips inside between both triangles (aren´t you by chance a fan of Origami - glue it on!). Do this often till you have three double pairs. Connect two of the double pairs at the same way and put a third pair to have a hexagon. You need 20 pieces of it. Have fun ;-)
Step 3c Pentagons
Here it is similar to the hexagons. You have to look that the long sides of the triangles, 0,83 Inches, are at the
outsides so they have to blend in the lamp all over. There were only five triangles!
Step 4
Have you this all accomplished, put the lamp together. Two pentagons must not connect. This means: Every pentagon is to close about with 5 hexagons and so on. Like a soccerball. You leave blank a place for a pentagon, so you can replace the lamp carrier. They were connected with a connecting piece from the innerside. It´s a bit tricky but in the end it is very firm.
You put the connecting pieces at the end like the hexa- and pentagons but glue not in the middle but at the clips on the associated pieces. For this reason the lamp has the chance to go round like a flower in the spring :)
Step 5
Switch the light on, be happy, find it nicely and swear, you would never to do handicrafts again :D (Edit: The dislike hold on only two days)
